Paraguard?

I'm tired of taking the pill and have looked into getting an IUD but i'm not sure whether to get the copper iud since it has no hormones. Any experiences with paraguard?

Hey! I've had mine for a little over 3 months. I've never been pregnant, the insertion felt like a tiny sharp cramp, as the day progressed I was cramping a bit more, it lasted for about a week but it was bearable, I would take ibuprofen or naproxen if it got bad. I still get cramps during my period but they haven't worsened, I love the IUD, you never have to worry about being on schedule with a pill. Good luck!

I have had it for about a few years now. And no problems at all. No cramping or nothing just normal periods that's all.

I got my IUD 19 months after i had my son. I didnt want to deal with the pill again considering i got pregnant while taking them. When i went to Planned Parenthood & asked them for more info on the IUD's, they told me i couldnt get the copper one because it causes heavier bleeding during periods & i was anemic so it would be dangerous. I ended up getting the Mirena & i LOVE IT! Its great not having to remember to take a pill every day. I also had tried the shot years ago & had a very bad experience before my 3rd dose so i knew that wasnt going to be an option for me.

I chose to get an IUD because I didn't like the side effects of oral birth control and becuause IUDs have lower risk of pregnancy comared to oral bc. I got the paragard because it was non-hormonal. The cramps were absolutely terrible for weeks after and my periods lasted 8-10 days and were extremely heavy. After about two months I was experiencing the worst cramps I ever felt in my life, nausea and extreme pain during sex. I went to my dr and they found that my body was rejecting the paraguard and expelling it out of my uterus. After getting it taken out I waited a month and got the Skyla. The small dose of hormones from the skyla help "relax" your uterus yet don't effect your body the way oral pills do. I've had Skyla for over a year now and absolutely love it. Still get my pds but they are light with little cramps if any. Also, the Skyla is the smallest IUD and designed for women who haven't had children.

I had the arm bar for a few years and before that I had depo shots. Both of which stopped my period. I chose paraguard because it's hormone free and I wanted to be natural again and get in tune with my body. And I have! My face cleared up, my libido SOARED, I have a full range of emotions compared to my static state of "blah" that I used to be in, and I feel much better about myself all around. The only draw back is the heavy periods. But I use super tampons, a back up liner, and never miss a dose of ibuprofen!

I have the paragard or the copper IUD. The only differences is the whether you want the hormonal benefit or not and how long you want to keep it in. The hormonal IUD obviously stops your period and I think it lasts up to 3-5 years. As for me, I don't mind having a period and the copper IUD has made my periods more heavy then they have ever been "crime scene" lol. That's something that I don't mind though even if it is more messy than usual.

But I also wanted something that could last a very long time until I was ready to have kids. It'll be 4 years this coming up October since I had it placed and I was 20 at the time. Now I'm 24, so it's perfect because I want to have kids at least before I'm 30 and I would have to take the paragard out before then anyways.

I've had the Paraguard since June 2013, placed 8 weeks after giving birth. Some cramping during the first few days, but not too bad. The bleeding during my period was definitely ridiculously heavy for almost a year. Spoke with a nurse the day I got it, she said most people give up and have it removed because of the bleeding, but it's worth the wait (she had the Paraguard herself). I took her advice, glad I did. Periods are normal, no hormones, and birth control I don't have to think about.

I've had it for 5 months now after my second baby. I hate it. I have extremely heavy periods to where I need to wear a tampon and a pad together and change every 2 hours or it gets everywhere. And o have had vagina soreness I'm not sexually active at the moment but the soreness has been so unbearable I can't walk and have to ice. It's happened 3 times but only these last 2 months. I am getting it removed this month.

Don't let my experience scare you, everyone is dif, it seems like there is majority a good experience with it. Every body is dif. Just letting you know some side effects I've had.

I have never been pregnant, nor do me and my husband want children so an IUD was our best option. I was on hormones for 4 years (mostly to stay regular) and I was tired of how crappy I felt while taking them. Paragard was the best option to fit what I needed. Had mine placed in January and the insertion sucked (at least for me it did), but I had someone with me and that definitely helped. Took lots of hot baths, ibuprofen and used a heating pad for the next week and it did the job. Definitely some spotting, but it is all worth it to be hormone free and knowing that I'm protecting myself from unwanted babies. I would go back and do it all again. Definitely something you should consider 😊
