help please

On Monday I was going to break up with my boyfriend because a group of people told me he was cheating on me. I told a friend who told another friend. That girl told my boyfriend a  made up reason of why I was breaking up with him that I still don't know. This girl and her friends including the "friend" that I originally told were trying to fight me and I said mean things back. I apologized to all of the girls and we are no longer fighting but me and my ex are still on bad terms. I am trying to apologize and explain what happened but he won't listen. I just want him to know that I know I messed up and want to make up for it. I really want him back and need help.
