Crush Problems

I have had a crush on this guy for 3 years. Him and I have been friends for 2 years now. We are pretty close, we tell each other stuff. We have been to each other's houses. We went to junior high together but now we go to different high schools. However he lives down the block so we still see each other. He used to have a huge crush on my friend and he told me about her all the time. It was so annoying. I think my friend told him that I liked him after that but it didn't seem to bother him. They went out for a month and then she broke up with him. He was crushed. I was there for him. I want to be his girlfriend so badly. Not super desperate but I think I love him. I feel like I'm getting mixed signals from him. Does anybody think I have a chance with him? I'm going to his house in a couple days, any tips for how to get him to ask me out while I'm there?
