Hypothyroidism?

As soon as I found out I was pregnant my thyroid apparently lost its mind and I gained more weight than I normally would have if it was functioning right. Did this happen to anyone else? And if it did, did your thyroid ever go back to normal and where u able to get off the medication?

Some people are able to stop taking medications after the baby is born (doctors will check your levels a few weeks after you deliver), but less likely if you have Hashimoto's. Good luck!

If it got messed up after pregnancy there are very good chances you'll be able to get off of it with testing after a few months.  Just be sure to study symptoms for after your baby arrives to discuss if you think your thyroid is still affected.

I've had hypothyroidism since we got married at 22 but it was poorly managed by an idiot gp  until I finally went to an endocrinologist and under her management  discovered I've got hashimotos thyroiditis auto immune disease which is often not tested but the cause of hypothyroidism in a majority of cases. So she adjusted my doses in July to keep me in the lower end of normal range because I was having hashimotos related infertility issues and got pregnant in September.  I now go in monthly for new labs to be sure my dose is ok and baby isn't being affected by my hypothyroidism. Having thyroid disease prior to pregnancy means I'll never live a life without daily medication because untreated thyroid disease can cause heart damage among a multitude of other things.

Ugh..... yes..... it's a long story so I will try to keep it to the basics for you. I e had hypothyroid for 15 years now, its crap, but with diet and exercise I've been able to maintain it and was even able to loose 100 lbs and keep it off for 4 years...... then I met my husband....... gained 10 lbs....... then I got pregnant. I was told since I was 18-20 that conceiving would be very difficult due to my PCOS and hypothyroid.... so we had help and 3 years latter we got pregnant with our son. My body was like wtf is this and went into a tailspin and my thyroid levels went out of control. I gained 100lbs over the pregnancy and my hypothyroid turned into hashimotos :/. After my son was born I had to get a lot of testing done to regulate my tyroid again, but it stabilized and with diet and exercise again I was able to loose 60lbs..... it took 3 years but at least I lost it (damn PCOS and hashimotos makes it imposibly hard to loose). Anyway my goal was to lose 80lbs so I could go back for help to get pregnant again but that's not what was planed for me. Ended up getting pregnant naturally! But this time around I am watching my weight close! I've been going to the gym still and trying my best to eat healthy, although I still give into a craving or two :) but I've still gaine 20lbs. This isn't really help, just letting you know I'm in the same boat and it totally sucks, but it could be worse so I just try my best to keep healthy and motivated (hard sometimes because with hypothyroid you can get depressed). Just try to be active a little everyday, even if it's something simple and whatcha what you eat. After baby gets here they will test you probably every 3-4 weeks to get you regulated, but it's something you can live with and manage if you just take the initiative. Good luck mama!
