IKEA dresser?

So I've heard a lot of stories about IKEA dressers tipping over and crushing kids (so scary and sad!). From what I've read, it's mostly been the Malm line and it happens when the furniture is not anchored to the wall. Has this stopped anyone from buying IKEA dressers for their nurseries? I wanted to buy the Rast or Tarva, and definitely anchor it well, but every time I tell someone they bring up tipping stores and now I'm not sure. What do you think?

Personally I think bad stories exist for everything. You shouldn't leave a child unattended with something they can try and climb that isn't attached to a wall. Its common sense to me. I think as long as you anchor it, and you don't leave a young child alone in the room with it there's nothing wrong with it.

Doesn't matter what furniture you buy. Always anchor to wall in baby's room. Kid furniture tends to be light weight. Ikea furniture is lightweight too. Definitely needs anchoring

I have two of the Rast dressers that I built into one large dresser for my baby. As long as you secure them to the wall properly it'll be fine.  dressers tip over because people do not take the correct safety precautions and secure them. It isn't just with IKEA products, you have this risk with any large piece of furniture. I feel like you hear about this happening with the Malm dresser a lot, simply because it's an extremely popular dresser for nurseries and kids rooms. Many people buy them and don't secure them.

No it wouldn't change my mind. If you are using something like that where a baby will be in there to play or what not it should be anchored no matter what brand or where you bought it.

I will be getting an IKEA dresser for my nursery. I don't think it is dangerous as long as it is anchored to the wall. 😊

I have malm dressers and I cannot imagine a child pulling them over because of how deep they are.  I can see if the dresser is tall and not deep that it would be easy for a child to tip over.  My dresser only tips when all the drawers are open but it wouldn't be able to crush a child because the drawers would stop it

You can buy kits to attach the dresser to the wall so if it does tip over it won't fall on the child.

Everything we buy for our kids rooms is IKEA! It's not IKEA furniture that has a risk of tipping, it's all furniture. They provide kits to wall mount now, or you can always buy a bracket at a hardware store. In all honesty, my kids furniture hasn't ever been anchored because I rearrange so much.

All you have to do is get the wall anchor kit and that isn't an issue any more. Those kits are provided for free. And keep in mind this can happen with any dresser not just IKEA.

I don't know what line it is and it isn't for babies but I have an IKEA dresser and it's perfectly stable. I've had it on carpet and hard wood and it does just fine. I don't have it anchored but for a baby I would anchor it. If it's anchored properly then there shouldn't be any problem!
