custody and child support questions??

Question

So I really want to get either full custody of my daughter or (is this part of joint custody idk much about this) get it to where if my ex wants to see her that the visit has to be supervised as he did threaten to harm her before she was born and while I'd be welcoming to his change of mind about her I wouldn't fully trust him for that word to be genuine... 
However I also want to file for child support .. And please don't say I'm being lazy or looking for a handout because I want CS... 
I just want to be able to give her the best and I honestly think the bit of help it would give would make a huge difference...
Anyways my question is if I were to get full custody so he couldn't see her would I still be able to get child support? Or would he no longer have to pay since he doesn't get to see her?

You have full physical custody; meaning the child lives with you full time. You share legal custody; meaning anything medical he has the right to know and decide as well as you, schools can't be changed unless he agrees too and you can not move x amount of miles away from him without court approval or they can make you undo those things if he fights it in court. Both of those he is required to pay CS. Anyone who calls anyone lazy can shut their traps bc it takes two to care for a child and so two should be financially responsible for that child. It sounds like you are wanting to terminate parental rights and that is very hard to do, and there are requirements that need to be meet before you can even file. In my state the parent needs to be absent from the child's life for 2+ years with absolutely no form of contact and also has to have not payed CS rather through court or verbal agreement. And even then they can fight it. Hope this helps, best of luck to you!

Depends on what state you live in. I'm in Nebraska and receive child support for my oldest. Part of our agreement states that I don't have to allow my child's father to see him even if he is paying and current on child support.  I would get a hold of child support enforcement and ask them how it works.
