Testing??

Question

When they do the DNA tests that test for downs or cystic fibrosis does that test also tell the sex? Wonder bc they called and said I'm a carrier of cf so a specialist should be calling me for an appointment. But could my doctor have the results of the sex???

I think the CF test is probably a carrier screening testing YOUR DNA, while the Downs test is a NIPT testing the baby's DNA. if they got the results from the baby DNA test they probably have the gender. My midwife emailed me my results were normal for the NIPT but I had to call them to get the gender.

For me, the downs testing is separate from the CF testing. The downs testing is the chromosome testing, that includes the gender.. I don't think the CF one did

When they did the testing for me I also had the sex of the baby, it all depends on your doctor on how he or she does the testing everyone is different.

Yes! Because I'm going to get it done tomorrow, and my doctor told me I could found out the sex also when it came back.

I think the only genetic test that'll do both together is the amino (correct me if I'm wrong) and that test will tell the gender. Most tests that look at the DNA/ chromosomes will determine the gender :)

For me at least, the downs and CF tests were too different tests. The downs told me the sex (which we didn't find out) and the CF test didn't.
