Should i take birth control?

I am 18 who's recently gotten sexually active and went to planned parenthood today. For a while now i've had irregular periods where i would have then twice in a month or skip a month, which i don't mind. I would say i'm more worried about getting pregnant and my boyfriend and i always use condoms. i'm just worried about the whole hormonal stuff and increase in different cancers so i was wondering if it's worth it? i did get a year and a month worth of pills. but now i'm having second thoughts. i would grateful if anyone could help me make a decision. Thanks!
