what was your parents parenting like

How did you're parents raise you? Strict or not? Seeing strict parents make me laugh wether it be in person of on tv shows. I wasn't raise by a strict parent. My mom was my friend but when she needed to be a parent she was. I know most parents don't allow what my mom allows. I was 16 when I got my first boyfriend and she allows him to sleep over and for me to have sex. She gives me condoms and that the end of our discussion. I feel like strict parents raise sneaky rebellious teens who have sex with tons of people and drink and do drugs. I'm 17 now and if I want to drink she lets me in the comfort of my house and not a dirty basement where I can take advantage of. I was given freedom but I was also taught the limits.

Sorry, if your mother was letting some dude spend the night and have sex with you at age 16, she skipped the parenting part. She was too busy being your friend, I wonder what she would have said if you got knocked up?

My parents weren't super strict either, but I didn't give them much reason to be so.

That's way beyond though. If drinking and having sex, in the family home are permitted at 16 what's too far? No shooting heroin before dinner?

I had strict parents. I actually didn't drink or drugs as a teen, but I did have sex. Obviously not in their house or with their permission. Now that I'm an adult, I agree with all their rules and understand them! When I was a teen I thought they were crazy and unreasonable. It was rough for me the day I realized my mom was right 😩

My parents were strict, but fair. I'm very close to both my parents, especially my mum. I wasn't allowed sleep overs with my boyfriend and I wasn't allowed to go out and drink (my parents gave me alcohol at home on special occasions though). I was expected to perform well in school, take care of my siblings when needed, do my chores, practice the piano, etc. They had and still have high expectations and standards for me. When I screwed up or misbehaved I was punished (not physically). They were always my parents and only now that I've moved it of the house my mum is becoming more of a friend.

Myself and none of my siblings have turned into sneaky kids at all. We all know how to handle responsibility and we've all done pretty well. The younger two of my brothers are still pretty young and in high school, but they're good kids. The eldest of my brothers is currently in engineering and on the Dean's List at his university. He's got nice friends and a sweet girlfriend. Sure he drinks and goes to parties, but he's responsible. I'm only 20 and I'm in vet school. I never snuck around or anything. I always felt like I could talk to my parents. The success that I've had and that my siblings have had is really due to having parents like ours. They taught us responsibility, the value of a good work ethic, etc. Strict parents don't equal bad parents at all. I value the structure and support my parents provided me with.

My parents were strict by most people's standards. They gave us the rules and explained that there was consequences for not obeying. 
We were homeschooled so we obviously didn't get away with much. Looking back the rules I didn't like make more sense to me now that I'm a parent. They were there for our own good. 
When I was a teenager I didn't go on dates alone. We courted so the whole family or a sibling was always there. It was really a lot of fun that way because there was no pressure. Sometimes me and my boyfriend would go out on the porch by ourselves to talk more privately but we were never truly alone. 
My husband was raised similar to me and we are planning to raise our children the same way.

My parents were strict, like super strict. Dad was in the military and my mom was a stay at home mom, who knew every damn thing lol. You couldn't hide anything from her, she was just no nonsense. There were rules and you followed them, they were serious about that. As a kid and teenager, I didnt see anything wrong with listening to my parents. As long as I did what my parents expected of me, I was good.

I definitely wouldn't be as strict with my kids as my parents were with me because at times it was unreasonable. But I will be somewhat strict. There will be rules and they will be followed.

My mom wasn't that strict but she did hold me and my sister to certain standards I guess. She didn't try to shield us from the world but there were just some things we couldn't do, like drugs or no dating at all until senior year. But I could pretty much do anything I wanted as long as she knew where I was and who I was with. She knows the struggle so I always valued what she'd say to me. Hell it was either that or be in a grave somewhere because she didn't do disrespect. There was a time I had to live with my grandparents for a few years and they were suffocating and overbearing. So yeah I guess that's about it. Nothing crazy.
