Safety first?

Okay so I have a question. My friends Sister in law has a 6 month old baby. Forward facing since 4 months. Illegal and not safe, right? I informed the friend of this as she lives with them she blew it off because her mother is a "good driver". Now that may be the case but she might end up next to a bad driver or a new driver one day who makes the wrong mistake. How do I inform this woman without setting her off? She does does not particularly care for me. However I can't help but want to say something because it is her first baby and I don't want that baby to get hurt In case of an accident. Maybe she doesn't't know? :(. Help?!

Maybe if you know someone who gets along with her better you could send them some links in car seat safety & see if they would be able to find a way to pass them on to her.

It's definitely not safe no matter how good a driver the mother is. Someone could rear end her & the risk to her child in a forward facing position is internal decapitation.

I'd talk to the mother of the baby and approach it slowly. Not like a know it all or telling her what to do. My cousin was changed with child abuse for not blucking her daughter straps on her carseat

That's still not safe. It doesn't matter if she likes you or not, the baby should her first concern.

How big is the baby? But yes it's illegal. A child needs to be a certain height and weight before they can be forward facing. Make it simple and call CPS they will just do a welfare check and ask some questions and make sure the infant is safe. It may be your best option than rather getting into it. Or you could tell her and say read your car seat manual and usually on the side there's a sticker saying what's the height and weight requirements and tell her it's illegal and if they're ever pulled over the cops will call CPS and the child will be taken away until she's proven to be a compentant and fit mother. It's no big deal really unless your doing something wrong and usually they let you correct your mistakes before they take action. I've had CPS come to me a couple times because of my mental health history (live in Canada) and all they wanted to see was the health of me, my son and my home and see how we interacted with each other.

A friend of mine had gotten into an accident once and the fact that she hadn't switched her son forward facing yet, which she could have but since she hasn't yet that is what saved him. Not saying he would have gotten killed but his injuries would have been much worse than a broken leg and she wasn't at fault for the accident. Not trying to put a damper out in the air but that's just reality.

Yeah uou SIL is an idiot.  Tell your DH that this is very bad and try to get him to talk to his family.  You are not overreacting.  Not to mention the huge fine if they get caught.
