Curious about anovulatory periods

I have a lot of anovulatory periods and I'm a little confused. So, you PMS because of a release of a hormone release that signifies you didn't conceive, and such. So, if you have an anovulatory cycle, where you don't have a period and your lining gets too heavy, would you still get PMS symptoms? Would you just randomly bleed? If you have a long cycle and start PMS-ing, did you just ovulate super late?
