Convertible car seat for a newborn?

I'm a FTM wanting to buy a convertible car seat. I really like the Evenflo Platinum Symphony LX All In One. Of course I checked the weight(rear facing 5-40lbs). Will I be able to use this car seat with a newborn?

You can use them however just keep in mind you won't be able to take the car seat in and out when going somewhere. You'll always need to take the baby out of the seat which may cause him/her to wake up. You will also need two car seats then for you car and your SO. Also my thing I thought about when deciding was if I'm running to the grocery store let's just say and I have the baby how am I going to bring him in? I can't hold him and push the cart and shop at one time. And you can't sit a newborn up in the cart. It's totally preference but that's how I looked at it.

Unless money is an issue I highly suggest getting an infant carrier. It pays off in convenience. My little ones falls asleep in it on drives and I couldn't imagine having to wake her out of the car. Especially with weather and what not. So much easier to keep her in her carrier.

The hospital cannot legally require you to bring an infant car seat. They also cannot provide any advice to adjusting or installing the seat unless the particular person is a CPST (certified to do this).

I'm not familiar with this particular seat, but check the measurement to the lowest strap slot. Some car seats will advertise to fit a small infant, but the straps start too high to use it.

You may also want to check your hospital's policy regarding baby carriers. A lot of them won't let you leave in a convertible seat. They require baby carriers.

We got the Britax Marathon, as it had fewest toxic chemicals, and haven't had a problem with using the convertible seat. We just transfer LO to a ring sling or other carrier and go, without the extra 12 lbs of car seat. Do it!

Check out the Chicco Fit 2. It's and infant carrier and cab also be used until 2 years of age. I'm considering buying it for my first baby.

We have always had both. In my husbands car we have the convertible Graco 4 ever seat that we used since my son was born. In my car we had a carrier car seat and I bought another carrier seat for my mom to keep in her car since she literally watches him almost every day. It was just easier than remembering to take one out and move it around.  Now that he's outgrown the infant seat, we bought two more convertibles, one for my mom and one for my car. I'm pregnant with number two and will use my infant carriers for this baby when it comes in September. Then we will probably have to buy even more convertible seats lol car seats never end!!

My husband and I have the Grace 4ever seats in our cars and they have been great. We have A pumpkin seat that came with our stroller and will take it with us if we're going to dinner or something just to sit him in at the restaurant but I'm so glad we didn't use it as our car seat. My son will be 6 months old on the 22nd and even though the infant carrier is supposed to be good up to 35 pounds he's nearly too big for it already and only weighs 17.5.
