When does baby go head down?

Maybe this is dumb. I feel dumb asking it lol, but when should baby start staying head down and how do you and/or the doctor know when they are and when they're not?

My midwife said they don't think much of it until after 34 weeks. She said most babies choose their position by then and if they aren't head down, they can give me things to do to help persuade the baby to move to head down. I think they want to see it definitely by 37 weeks at the practice I'm going to.

They check with an ultrasound but honestly it matters on the baby. Even when they go head down early, they can get into the breech position at any time also. I believe my daughter went head down at 6-7 months idk o remember but she still there thankfully lol

My boy has been head down 24w. I had monthly US so that how I know. 
A lot of OB can tell by just touching your belly. 
They can turn head down at any point.

Mine didn't go head down until 34 weeks. By 35 weeks I was dilated 1 cm and 40% effaced.

My daughter was breech since 20 weeks and she finally flipped at 37 weeks" thank goodness " i am 40 weeks now but my doctor said normally by 36 weeks baby will flip head down they can tell by feeling and also through ultrasound, you will know torwards the end of your third trimester what position there in, so they would schedule a c section if baby is still breech by your due date or wait it out till about 42 weeks if baby is down so don't worry!!! They will tell you

My son has been head down since 28 but most breech babies turn head down at the last minute so it's really different for everyone

Had my 16 weeks appointment and his head was down. But honestly my baby is VERY active. When we have our appointments everyone comes in the room to see him put on a show literally
