Breastfeeding is so much more difficult than expected.
My daughter's approach seems to be...
Latch. Unlatch. Scream at nipple. Latch. Unlatch. Rub open mouth back and forth on/around nipple. Latch. Try to make mama drop me. Lick and chew at nipple. Unlatch. Smush closed mouth against nipple. Rub entire head on nipple because I want breastmilk in my hair and eye! Try to eat mama's thumb. Latch. Eat for about 30-90 seconds. Fall asleep. Pass gas/poo so loudly I wake myself up. Start eating again. Fall asleep mid feed. Unlatch. Let the milk that was in my mouth dribble out. Ignore mama trying to wake me for 10+ minutes, including a diaper change. Wake up. Cry because I'm still hungry. Latch. Finish meal. Sleep for 1-3 hours. Repeat.
It's been a long 16 days...
(No ties, perfect little baby mouth. Once she stops being difficult she feeds just fine. We usually do this song and dance 1-3 times a day and the other feeds are much simpler. I'm not overly frustrated or concerned because she's producing good diapers and she exceeded her birth weight by half a pound at 10 days old. I just want it to be easier for her.)
