midwife or OB?

Question

So I'm a first time mom to be and I am trying to choose between a midwife and an obgyn. I'm kinda scared of having a baby all natural but I don't feel like it is something I couldn't do. Thoughts? Pros and cons?

I loved that I instinctively trusted my ob, they did more urine analyses and ultrasounds, etc, and seemed more efficient. But once I moved to a midwife they did more belly poking and I felt like they treated me more like a person, they took more time explaining things and they gave me a lot more options than just, "this is what people do", also I absolutely loved having a midwife for my birth, my water broke at midnight, and our boy was born at almost 7 pm, after 3 hours of pushing, totally naturally, and I'm sure none of that could have happened with an ob. 😊

I love my midwife team. I'm not sure if this is only where I live but mine allow me to call them 24/7 if I have any questions (ex. I fell down the stairs at 25 weeks pregnant on a national holiday. If I had an ob or doctor I don't think I would have been able to reach them but my midwife was right there to talk me through everything). They also help out 6 weeks after the birth to make sure baby and I are adjusting well.

I guess it would depend on the setup for your state. My first I had a ob but she was a private Doctor so she also delivered my baby ... my second I went with a midwife since here the ob rotate so who ever is on call is who deliver your baby given the fact I only seen one ob on a regular I don't like switching between 3 different doctors I went with a midwife which was much more comfortable for me and more easy to talk to about problems and whatnot... I'd say if your doctor office is like mine and have both try them both put and see which one you are more comfortable with... I say if whatever doctor is on call is who deliver your baby go with a midwife, btw having a midwife doesn't mean you have to go natural they are just able to do everything but surgery

While I see the value of a midwife, I want a surgeon with me when I deliver. I had a very easy breezy pregnancy (I already had 2 vaginal births previously) and then while laboring my 3rd baby I needed an emergency c section due to preeclampsia and baby going into distress during labor and a cord issue was suspected. I'm glad my own Dr performed the surgery.
