Had my VBAC delivery just a few days before scheduled C Sectiom
Anyone trying for VBAC I will share my experience because I haven't read a lot of birth stories of labour after c section.
Ideally I would have been getting sweeps starting at 38 weeks but at every appt I wasn't dilated at all, which sucked!! I cried after every appt because I really wanted a sign I could avoid surgery again. My last appt was at 40+3 and I still wasn't dialted, my c section was scheduled for the morning of 41+1. I was so worried I was going miss out on the opportunity to at least experience my own labour. (First was a scheduled c section for breech) The day of my last appt I had some pink watery discharge and cramps so I thought for sure I was dilating, plus I lost my plug 2 days earlier...But nothing, cervix thinned a little more that's it. So they wouldn't give me another appt before my section, which I didn't think was fair, but I couldn't force it. They offered a Foley catheter Sunday the day before my section, that would have been my last hoorah at going into labour on my own.
That night I had some crampy contractions but spaced apart, so I woke up and told my toddler she had to help mama exercise. I was still have crampy contractions but I had false ones a few days earlier that fizzled out. So I kept busy all day, dancing with her, cleaning, walking on the treadmill, contractions got closer together but I still wasn't convinced. They were 3-5 mins. Finally I realized they weren't dying down so I told my husband to come home at 430 pm. They were getting stronger, and by 5 I had some watery discharge after every contraction, which I thought might be my water. We got to the hospital at about 6 and they confirmed mlthat my contractions were real labour and my water was leaking so they had to keep me. I got checked hopeful I was at a 3-4, but I was only 2 cm!!
Contractions got real soon after!! Wow they hurt like a SOB kudos to any women who go natural. I laboured until 9 pm and couldn't walk anymore, and the anisthesiologist came in and said he could only do the epidural right now or risk me not getting it at all. Thank God I got it!! Best decision ever!!! I thoroughly enjoyed the rest of my labour and it went another 8 hours. I dilated pretty quickly after the epidural I went to a 7-8 in a couple hours, then a couple hours later I was a 9, and my contractions spaced out, doctor told me if I stopped progressing they would try a tiny bit of pitocin but otherwise they would have to do a c section because they can't risk me getting stuck. Baby must have heard the doctor because my contractions picked back up and into overdrive and I dilated to a 10, then we waited for me to have an urge to push, I pushed for about 40 mins and baby came!!! It was so awesome to have a vaginal birth, although my c section was great, after having both I can honestly say I never want to experience the c section recovery ever again!!! It is a million times harder than a vaginal birth. I was discharged from the hospital at 24 hours and home shortly after.
