Posting because there isn't much research on the topic, but there does seem to be a correlation between tinnitus and hormone fluctuations.  I've always had mild tinnitus, it got louder during my first pregnancy and immediately after childbirth it was deafening.  I'm pregnant with #2 now and the ringing is getting louder again.  Good grief, will I ever sleep again?

I've had it previous to being pregnant. I don't think pregnancy causes this as it doesn't damage your ear drums. Tinnitus is caused by damage to the ear drum, hence the ringing and damage to hearing.
