Can "bigger girls" do gymnastics? Please read description to understand what I mean before voting!

Step daughters mom told my stepdaughter (who is in gymnastics) that "heavier" girls can't do gymnastics. I was SO upset she would even tell a 10 year old this! So I want to take a poll to show my stepdaughter that size doesn't matter! Can "bigger girls" do gymnastics? Obviously we aren't talking obese. We are talking women 160-180 pound range (only for this topic of gymnastics!!) I'm not a body judger and by no means do I mean for this post to offend anyone!

I'm over 200lbs and do gymnastics, various forms of dance and used to competitive swimming.

Weight isn't an indication of talent. There are plenty of fat athletes so your stepdaughter's mom is wrong and should keep her mouth shut!

I've taken lots of gymnastics classes.  Heres the thing...tell your stepdaughter that you know somebody who is 33 years old, and weighs 133lbs and she does all sorts of tucks, handsprings, and partner stunting!!

Its not about weight its about skill and determination!  Go get 'em kiddo!!

I competed in gymnastics for 12 years. If she keeps up with it, I doubt she will be a "bigger girl" for long. Conditioning days are serious business hahahaha

I don't believe size is a measure of someone's capabilities. I was the most flexible girl in my gym class despite being 200 pounds. Hannah Baines does ballet even though people said she couldn't.

Listen she is out of line.. I know thicker/curvy women that can do a split and my ass can't even do a cartwheel..hell I can barely do a somersault...so that is horrible for her to tell her daughter that especially at an age where girls question their bodies and are being judged by their body type!!!

Yes. My sister has always been overweight and did gymnastics from age 5 - 10.

Just so everyone is aware!!!! My stepdaughter is not thick or anything she's actually tiny BUT her mom was saying it on behalf of women EVERYWHERE not to her daughter calling her overweight.

She can do whatever she thinks she can do and it's sad that her mom doesn't believe in her. Like wtf? Way to instill a limited belief system at an early age. Maybe it would help her be healthier too if she encouraged her more. I always tell my daughter there's nothing she can't do. If she thinks she can do it, then she CAN do it.
