Insurance doesn't cover blood test to find out gender, right?

Hi ladies!
My OB mentioned a blood test that I can take at my 11.5 week appointment that has a 90-something percent accuracy rate in detecting the baby's sex. I don't think insurance (mine is Blue Shield of CA PPO) covers that. Any experience here? Should I just wait til like 20 weeks?

Some do! The best way to find out how much it will cost you is to call the lab and ask them what they bill your doctor, then call your insurance and ask them what they cover for that kind of test. Then you can just do the math! ( get the lab code number and test number so you don't need to call more than you have to... I learned the hard way:P)

Ok so I called my OB's office-- here's an update. My OB does this testing through a company called Progenity. They have a signed contract with Progenity saying that no matter what insurance covers (Progenity is "out of network" for me), the patient cannot be responsible for more than $100. So it looks like I'll get the test!

No insurance doesn't cover it, unfortunately. I'm 35 yo, so it was recommended to me, it not only detects gender, but also several syndromes. Mine came back negative (which is good) and telling me I'm having a boy!! I'm over the moon happy!! 
With my 1st, I waited till 20 weeks and found out she was a girl. It's all wonderful! Congrats!!🎉

I did it with my last pregnancy and really recommend it. It also tests for genetic abnormalities and is much more reliable than ultrasound scans for genetic abnormalities. If my child were to have a genetic issue, I would like to know early so that I could prepare and have all the care ready before he/she came out. Finding out the gender at 12 weeks is nice too. :).

I am getting the Counsel test done this week! I called the lab and I have to pay $350 out of pocket! If I were over 35 it would be covered... we just can't wait to find out the gender and it's always reassuring to have extra (& more sensitive) genetic testing

I have anthem blue cross blue shield and my insurance covers it. What I had to do what call the insurance company with a diagnoses code that the doctor gave me and they will look it up and see if it's covered.

I would call and check with your insurance. I actually called harmony and got the code for the billing. Mine MAY be covered but they won't know for sure until they see how my dr bills it. So I'm not having it done but the test is $450. I'll just wait a few more weeks and go get a special ultrasound and find out gender.

I'm waiting until 20 weeks so I don't have to pay for the test out of pocket and also for greater accuracy! I've had a couple friends get incorrect guesses on gender when finding out too early.
