skipping a period

So I am going on vacation with my boyfriend next week and it is the same days as when I am supposed to have my period so I want to skip. I have been on the pill for nearly a year now and have skipped my period before HOWEVER when I skipped it before I'd only been on it around 4? Months and I ended up bleeding for close to 21 days. I can't handle that again lol so my question is have any of you experienced something similar and then been okay skipping later or? Basically just need opinions on what you would do! I really don't want to have my period as this is our first real vacation together and it's going to be a romantic weekend.
