Bathing on my period??

One of my friends told me taking a bath while on your period is the best thing. Me, with my heavy flow, can't fathom doing it but she says somehow she's able to hold it in. What?? Is this true? Has anyone actually bathed while on their period or is this just for people who have a light flow?
