Personally I don't think numbing gel is a great idea because you need to know when it hurts, that's your body telling you to stop. It's pretty easy to injure yourself with anal sex if you're going too hard or too fast so I think it's really important to be in tune with your body in the moment. I guess using a little for comfort is fine, but not to the point you won't feel anything.

I would suggest to not use any kind of numbing anal lube!  Horrible feeling. The best lube to use is a water based lube
