Doctors Notes and Getting Fired

I asked my doctor today for a note to get off work because of excruciating joint dysfunction - she said she absolutely would but wanted to warn me that she has heard of people being fired for getting a note and referred me to this article: https://mobile.nytimes.com/blogs/well/2015/07/08/doctors-notes-for-pregnant-employees-often-backfire-experts-warn/?referer=

She warned me at very least it would cut into my FmLA and might put me in a tough spot as I'd only be 34 weeks at time of sign off. FMLA only grants 12 weeks total unpaid time off so in most states that would be correct...

I happen to be in Oregon, which has a state law granting up to 12 weeks unpaid leave before birth for pregnancy related problems PLUS 12 weeks unpaid leave for caring for a new child - so I knew legally I am covered, I've also had my Hr department reassure me I'm ok.

Anyway just wanted to share this for anyone looking to get a note soon - look into your state leave laws and talk to HR if you can.
