Breastfeeding rates lower in U.K. than USA....why?

I am from the UK and I have noticed it is very rare here for a mother to breast feed. Especially long term. I would say only around 1-2 mothers in 10 breastfeed. Why is this? I have noticed with this app breastfeeding in USA seems to be the norm where as here it's not.

Do you agree? Other mums from U.K. Do you find this?

From polls it seems probably 8-9 mums in 10 breastfeed.

I'm in the US and there are a lot of programs that inform women about breastfeeding maybe that's why? We also have a lot of support groups for it. I breastfed both of my kids until atleast 2 years old so they got all the health benefits. I know Moms that nursed even longer. I plan on nursing my little guy (my last baby) I'm currently pregnant with as long as he want. The bond you get from breastfeeding is amazing and also I strongly believe babies should be breastfed not formula fed.

I think it's the militant breast is best, sanctimommy crap that makes it seem so prevalent - people drop out of breast feeding but don't admit it because they don't want people to accuse them of being unfit mothers or calling CPS (yeah I've seen someone on this app threaten someone who just didn't want to breastfeed that they should have the baby taken away).

I wish we would just support one another rather than try to control and shame each other 😔

(It's true though that it's up to state / local law to protect breastfeeding in public rights in the US - my state protects it but many places in the Us it's kind of gray- yeah Americans are dumb prudes what can I say 🙄)

I think it sounds like it's more the norm in the U.K. than it is here in the US 😅 I feel there are more laws and regulations in place to support breastfeeding mothers there than here.

There is so much taboo surrounding breastfeeding in the US, that I don't see it often at all. I plan to breastfeed when my LO comes in August, and my MIL has already voices concerns about how I'm going to feed my baby on vacations to the lake house they own, and how I'll have to sit everything out and be in a separate room while feeding my baby so I don't disgust anyone. My hubs and I have already decided that if she has a problem with my feeding my child (while wearing a cover because that's my preference) that we'll vacation without them. A lot of people believe it shouldn't be talked about and that formula feeding is so much easier, and that's why I know a ton of mom's who gave up on breastfeeding. No one will ever get to shame me into stopping, because I feel that it is what's best for me and my child.

It's not as popular as this app would have you believe. The thing is that people in the US are starting to do this all natural craze & if it's not natural its bad. Lots of women breast feed, but most still do formula. I only know 2 other girls with kids that actually even tried to best feed. People here are so big on breast feeding that some women feel like their a terrible mother bc they can't do it. Not saying everyone is like that, but bc of the stigma some people have put on breast feeding in public, it's become a hot topic here.

Hmm..I'm in the US and I rarely see mom's breastfeeding. I think it might be starting to come back? I'm not sure, this is definitely interesting!
