Help! How did you transition baby into crib/their own room?

Question

My son will be ten months tomorrow and I'm due with baby #2 in one month. I'm now struggling to transition our son into his crib in his room and I've clearly procrastinated for way too long. But I'm a FTM and was nervous not having him in the same room as us. 
 
EXCLUDING the cry it out method, what helped transition your LO into their own room and crib?

Does he sleep in a crib in your room or cosleep? How old?  I got a portable bassinet (I use the Lulaboo) and got baby used to sleeping in it with a white noise machine in my room. ...then moved the baby and Lulaboo to the crib in my room....then once she got used to that I moved everything including white noise machine to her room. But if you have an older baby that may not work.

Play in his room so he knows it's a good space. Try transitioning for the morning nap and then work up to night time.
