What happens at a NT scan?

Question

I have one scheduled on the 19th I'll be 13 weeks. But I was wondering what happens on that visit?
I know its something about  measuring the neck. But will they also check the whole baby? Will I be able to see? Can my SO go with me?
This are questions I couldn't ask my OB because she always rushes my appointments.

They check the neck, the nasal bones, brain, heart. They check a lot of things on the baby. Honestly, personal experience, that was the longest ultrasound. But I also had two very stubborn children. I never had this done with my first. They checked at 20 weeks. They let my husband and 1.5 year old daughter in the room when they did this. Do drink water. And don't pee right before the appointment. Have your SO, if in the room at the time, sneak some pictures. I only got one of each kid.

It's basically an involved ultrasound, they let my hubby come in at end

That's too bad that you feel rushed by your OB.  😕 at our NT scan I was instructed to drink 3 cups of water an hour before to lift my uterus so they could see better...but I guess i drank too much because I was too full and the baby was like dancing (we were able to watch the whole thing!).  Then then checked the whole baby out and we got more pics to take home...and then they focused on the neck region and the amount of fluid that was there ...ours was in the safe range so i don't know what happens otherwise.  They checked the heart rate and measures the baby as well.  My SO was there with me!  Hope that helps!  Although remember that the scan alone can't tell everything so they will prick your finger and drop 5 (I think) little drops on a piece of paper they send to a lab to have tested as well!  The NT is a 2-parter I guess!
