why do people cut?

(Please please please understand this is not in a  Rude or mean tone. I'm acting completely serious and just curious) I'm confused on why people cut themselves. I just feel like that would hurt a lot so why would you do it? Is it because the emotional pain is worst than the physical? Just confused on how people can bring themselves to do that, I wouldn't be able to (again I'm just curious and please don't comment if you don't have a serious answer for me. I've been wondering this for a long time but just haven't known how or who to ask)

I needed to feel something real I wanted to match how I felt inside outside I cut myself with sticks n rocks cuz a blade didn't hurt enough ... it's a cry for help for someone to c me n c I'm broken I need someone to save me from myself ... that may sound weak but that's how I felt when I first did it but now im with the man of my dreams n he is taking me out of my depression slowly day by day... he's my sanity my best friend n my love of my life  n all I ever wanted ...

So from personal experience, I did it because I wanted to feel something. It was better than feeling numb seeing the blood rush out of a cut and trickle down my arm was the most beautiful thing to me. Sometimes if something would go wrong and I had to wait to cut I would think about it in my head and it'd make me smile and laugh. As horrible as it all sounds it was what I loved to do. I needed it to feel good. And the scars it left made me even more beautiful. Every time a cut faded and didn't leave a scar I was upset and needed another. It was just beautifully perfect to me.

Everyone decides to do it for a different reason. However, chemically speaking, people become addicted when your brain becomes dependent on that physical trigger to release endorphins. It's a little bit like feeding a bear. If your brain is looking for an artificial trigger, like cutting, then it stops releasing endorphins without it. Eventually, it will begin to release them on Its own again. It just takes time, Much like recovering from an opiate addiction.

Multiple reasons. Some do it so they can focus on the physical pain and ignore a certain thought. Others do it just to feel something so they don't feel so disconnected and dead. Sometimes it's just a habit they do when stressed.

It's just a way for some people to deal with what's going on in their life. They see cutting as punnising themselves as they feel like that have done something wrong. Self harm is not just cutting, if you punched a wall in anger that's self harm. Self harm is inflicting pain on yourself. Cutting is a coping mechanism for some people seeing blood relieves some of the pain but not enough. Many people do it for different reasons but the main one I know is they want to hurt themselves as they think they have done something wrong and should be punished xxx sorry if this upsets anyone

No one can really give you a set answer on this, it is not necessarily something you can understand in my opinion if you have been fortunate enough to never experience it.

I did it to distract myself from the emotional numbness I was experiencing. I though feeling physical pain was better than feeling nothing at all. I loved the adrenalin rush afterwards. I loved having control over something.

I used to not know why they'd do that.
And then I did it.
I started because I knew a friend who did and that sparked the great idea in my head. People do it for different reasons. Some because it is a distraction, others do it because they feel they deserve it, some do it because it makes them feel calm, some do it for attention (and not necessarily in a bad way). Self harm can release endorphins that might make someone feel better.
That being said, it is NOT a good option. It is really bad for your health and can be life threatening. It deepens your depression. No one deserves this.
I did it and I can't wear short sleeves. This was two years ago. I still see the scars on my hips.
