convertible car seat for new born?

Question

I have been researching about it and still couldn't make a decision. Is it convenient to use convertible car seat for new born? Or do you guys plan to buy newborn/infant car seat for first year only?

I was planning to buy Maxi Cosi infant car seat compatible with Bugaboo Bee stroller but after reading lots of opinions I am pretty confused. Most of the people say it is not healthy for new born/infant to sleep in car seat more than 2 hours a day (which will be on the top of the stroller) for baby's posture and breathing. What do you all think?

I like the newborn because it attaches to the stroller AND if they are sleeping you can just lift the car seat out with the baby but if it's a converible car seat you cannot lift it out because it's stationary . I use the convertible when my kids are about 6-8 months but newborns always get the newborn seats . I hope his helps

I've never heard of a two hour rule to be honest. I 100% vote for the infant seat. Unless you have a bassinet attachment for your stroller, most strollers recommend not using the actual stroller seat until 6 months (or when baby can sit up unsupported) anyways because the seat doesn't fully recline. Taking a little newborn in and out of a convertible seat every time sounds awful haha

If you know you want to wear baby then you can probably skip it. Otherwise it's nice to have for all those times you're out less than two hours. I often went to the grocery store, post office, dentist or wherever and the infant seat was very convenient.  All those trips are under two hours. It got harder when my baby grew out of it. Especially if I ran a bunch I of little errands. Making four stops in one hour is a pain if you have to get baby in and out of the seat each time. But it just depends on how you see yourself transporting baby. It's definitely not a necessity.

Another reason we love the infant car seat is when we switch it between hubbys and my car. We just both have a base in our cars and it's simple to switch back and forth whenever we take one of the cars. Grandma has one in her car too for all the baby cousins. The convertible takes a bit more time but it's still simple enough to switch as well so it's really a matter of convenience. Our toddler is in a convertible so we have to move that one anyway when we take a different car. Lol

Definitely getting a convertible! There's no sense in spending ~100$ on a car seat to go buy another one a year later. Baby isn't supposed to sleep in it outside of the car anyways so it just makes sense! Some people really like the convenience of an infant seat though! Either one is great, just has to be the best fit for you!

Seats made for infants are way safer Dollie to them being "made" for infants. Convertibles are still safe just not "as" safe. Infant ones are much easier and convenient too. Especially in the cold you can bring it in and put baby in before going out, keep it covered and warm, run quick errands without taking baby out, let baby sleep longer, etc.

I am getting the infant seat because taking a new born out of the convertible seat is a royal hassle.  As they sleep more then, they are almost ALWAYS asleep when you stop the car.
 
As for the 2 hours - this is a suggestion, and obviously there are reasons for it.  BUT - I usually found with my niece, that it was the only way she WOULD sleep.  
 
If you think you can move the baby easily enough, perhaps it is not needed.  But I personally would recommend.

We did the infant seat with my daughter. She outgrew it by 6 months and we had to upgrade to a convertible. This baby is going directly in the Diono Radian with the infant insert. We actually found the infant seat to be a pain in the ass as it got in the way everywhere we went. We will do baby wearing this time when we go places.

We got an infant car seat because of the added safety features that were available AND the ability to take the baby directly out of the car. Agree about the two hour max rule but it's still a convenience too many parents told me I'd want lol. We got the Nuna Mixx system (Nuna pipa car seat.... One of the lightest on the market and it has not only an anti rebound leg but rigid LATCH, not just LATCH.). The stroller's seat is also newborn compatible (full recline).  It's gorgeous, light, all terrain tires, slim profile. definitely check it out! MBeans on YouTube does a great overview
