IUD = heart palpitations?

I had my Mirena IUD placed about 5 weeks ago after 12 years on the pill. Ever since I have been having weird heart palpitations - like my heart is skipping a beat. It only happens sometimes (but does happen daily) and usually goes away after a few minutes. A little googling tells me this isn't uncommon. Has anyone else experienced this? Did it go away for you?

I'm kind of freaked out!

I am experiencing the same thing. I just don’t wanna get a heart attack but if it’s absolutely safe then ok. Did yours go away or are you still struggling? I drink camomile tea and stress balls lol. I also try to practice mediation. They said it’s anxiety but my irrational brain doesn’t believe so although I’ve had had palpitations a lot in the past on my depression and anxiety meds. It’s likely anxiety but I all I keep thinking is the worst so thats fun.

Hi Christina, sorry you are dealing with this. I had the mirena in for 2.5 years. I had no problems at first and towards the end (got it removed in Dec 2016) I experienced increased anxiety, heart palpitations, and shortness of breath. It did feel like my heart was skipping a beat sometimes eek! I had anxiety before the mirena to be fair, it just had intensified some of those feelings and made me feel a little out of control at times. I was even hooked up to a heart monitor for 48 hours to make sure there was nothing wrong. I was told that everything came back completely normal, but I had still felt like my heart beat was somewhat erratic. I am not sure exactly what causes it. Once I had it removed, my anxiety reduced dramatically and I no longer feel like my heart is skipping a beat. If you keep experiencing this, you should definitely talk to your doctor. This is just my personal account with it, everyone is different and the hormones in mirena can wreak a little havoc on your body.
