8 week midwife appointment - what to expect?

Going in tomorrow for the first midwife appointment. She said we wouldn't do an ultrasound until 20 weeks, so I'm curious why there are so many pics on this app so much earlier? Also, what should I expect at the 8 week appointment with the midwife? What should I ask? First child!

More than likely you will have an internal exam, bloodwork and urine test. They'll talk about what's going on, anything you should be careful with and discussing your due date.
The main point of this appointment is to make sure you are healthy.

The most common reason for early sonograms is to identify due date. If you are unsure, they order one to pinpoint when to expect baby.

My doc wasn't planning on me having a sonogram until 18-20 weeks, but we heard baby's heartbeat at 10 weeks with my uterus measuring higher than it should be right now, so he's sending me in to confirm... which makes me nervous because I know exactly when I conceived. I'm nervous because this could mean multiples. Lol

I had my first 8 weeks appointment with my midwife this past Tuesday. This one my first time ever seeing her and I wasn't sure what to expect. Anyways, I had to pee in a cup, they took my weight and blood pressure, then the nurse had to ask a ton of question about my health history. After she was finished the Midwife came in gave me a packet of information, went over some stuff I had told the nurse, told some things to expect and then she did a quick ultrasound to make sure everything looked good and that there was only one baby. I'll go back in three weeks for a better ultrasound with a tech and for my follow up appointment with my midwife. I was also sent to get blood drawn for labs after my appointment too.

I go to a midwife and it's typical for them to not do anything that could be seen as unnecessary/invasive. At my first appointment with them I gave a urine sample, weighed myself, they offered a pap smear which I declined and that was fine with them, they did offer a vaginal ultrasound for me though to get a proper idea on how far along I was. however, over the phone for some reason they said they didn't do ultrasounds. I was asked a little bit about my sexual history, they took my blood pressure, asked when was the first day of my last period, asked if I had any questions etc. And pretty much everything that I did that day they do again at all the repeat visits.

I can't tell you what to expect since I've never seen a midwife. They'll probably do the basic things like vitals and talking about symptoms etc. They may take a urine sample, or they may not.

A lot of women have early ultrasounds for dating or because they've had a history of miscarriage/complications...or just that their doctor routinely does them early on.
