What causes spotting after sex?

Me and my SO had sex last night and she said she had some spotting today but it's midway through her period what could cause that?

Ovulation can cause mid cycle spotting and I've also heard that if your cervix is sensitive the rubbing again it can cause some spotting. Everyone is different so I wouldn't say it's normal but it's not unheard of. I never had if happen before I got with my current S/O but with him I do, it still happens to me with my S/O and we've been together for 6 years...also I've heard that polyps or small cysts can cause that (not all cysts are harmful but some definitely can be) best thing to do is encourage her to get a check up or talk to her doctor but I'm sure it's nothing to worry about.
