Feeding baby dairy

This might be a dumb question, but I'm a FTM. I know babies can't have cows milk until 1 year so I just assumed all dairy was off limits since it was made with cows milk, but I just read cheese and yogurt is okay?? When did you give your babies dairy products? And if you give yogurt, is it baby yogurt or can they have regular yogurt? My daughter is 8 months if that makes a difference.
