I find this a wonderful question! I used to be atheistic, but started believing in God because I couldn't believe that nature just creates itsself. From the entire circle of life, to the wonderful growing of the embryo or the smallest seed, it all made me feel that there is a Higher Power, feeding and nursing and All-Aware. As a lover of sciences as well, it struck me that with our human mental capabilities to create high sofisticated buildings, labs to discover dna and toss around with it, grow genetic altered crobs,… we are NOT able to create the basic of Godly creation: pure life. Everything living we create we took it from something alife. And when we take dead materials, the end result will be dead. Oh yes we can keep it look alive in a lab but everyone knows it's not ALIFE. So if we with our sofisticated labs and premium intelligence can not make something alive, how would a brainless nature be able to do this?Things are not only created living things, but they are created symbiotic living things. That's high level order. This shows (to me) that God must be real. I see the results of everything He creates. If you see a painting you don't ask yourself 'how did this painting create itself?'. You ask yourself 'I wonder who painted this and left it here?'. If you see any ordered construction (be it a wooden boat, a building, a drawing, a camp fire,… ) you know this is the result of intelligent species. Because you know nature is not able to make an ordered construction like that in a million years. So how about the construction of the eye, the brains, the blood circulation?? I see God's existence beyond any doubt, because I see His results. Even though no one can scientifically proove His Existence. And I think atheism is scientifically speaking very incapable of making this link, because linking the two (God and ordered intelligence in life) will undermine atheism itself.
What makes you believe in god and why??
Hope someone can help...
I've never really questioned the existence of god until I met my OH who is Muslim. I've been a non practising Christian most of my life and as a scientist I have often struggled with the concept. Even more so as I have handled the bones of early man and studied human evolution.
Can anyone please explain what it is that makes them believe in god? Its a hard question to answer but I just struggle to understand. Also why do you choose to believe in god?
I'm not looking to upset anyone or for arguments, its a genuine query. Thank you in advance xx
