Cry It Out?

My daughter is four months old and HATES naps. She used to never take a nap and I would spend almost an hour trying to get her to sleep, and all she would do was cry. I never wanted to do CIO, I thought it was terrible to let a baby cry, until now. A few days ago I put her in her crib for a nap, and she cried for about two minutes tops and then just fell asleep. I didn't have to pick her up, or give her a paci or anything, I just kept an eye on her from my bed. Is this okay? I'm getting different answers online, some people think 4 months is too young, others say it's fine. What do you think? Everytime she's only cried for two minutes or less.

You'll continue to find varying answers here probably too haha but for ME my babies were 3 months and I let them CIO. I think you're doing everything right. You're keeping an eye on them, you're not making her cry for an hr. In my opinion laying them down awake, they fuss for a couple minutes, I'd say even to ten minutes is fine! They have to get some jitters and energy out and then they fall asleep...on their own!!! Keep it up mama you're doing great!

I judge by them type of crying. You know her needs depending on her cry. The "hey why did you leave me I want your attention" cry is VERY different from her "mommy help me I need you where are you!" cry. As long as she doesn't cross the line to that panicked cry then I think about 10 minutes is acceptable. But never leave baby hungry, uncomfortable (cold,etc), soiled diaper, etc. I followed that with my son, hes now 5 & very loving & knows he's very loved.

Call the nurse at your pediatrician. Or ask your pediatrician. Rule of thumb is lay the baby down after a routine. Awake. If the baby cries pick up after 1 minute. Comfort. Lay back down. If the baby is still crying you wait 2 minutes. Comfort. Still crying after 3 minutes comfort some more. Then 4. And again at 5. If you reach 5 and it's still going on? Go back to comfort every 5 minutes. This is ONLY to be done if baby is fed, burped and dry. If you reach an hour mark of 5 minute increments of comfort I would give in and see if they're hungry again. NEVER leave a baby to CIO unattended. That IS neglectful.

You'll get different answers or opinions on this. My son is 8 months old and times he doesn't want to go down but is super tired he fights it I let him cry it out for so long then I will comfort him but leave him in his bed unless he's crying super hard then I'll pick him up. Usually he crus no more than 5 min and then just lays down and falls asleep.

My mom did this with my older brother when he was very young and it worked on him. My younger brother and i didnt cry as much as my older brother according to her but that was her method with all of us when getting us to sleep. I wished it worked for my step daughter but her being in 2 different homes it was hard to get her used to it so we had to get up constantly with her because her mom coddles her did back then and still does now.

It's fine. She soothed herself and fell asleep in 2 minutes. It would be different if it was for 20 minutes or more

I think if she's crying for only a couple minutes that's okay. She's probably just so tired if she's not sleeping that it's making her upset. Good luck!
