sex to start labor?

when they say have sex because it might help.. what part are they actually talking about? the penetration? orgasm? sperm?

It's the sperm! We had sex yesterday morning, and I had contractions from 4pm till about 2am this morning.. hopefully they did something! We'll probably try again tonight too. Due Friday!

The sperm has a chemical similar to oxytocin which can help trigger labor and soften your cervix. An orgasm can trigger contractions since it generally causes at least 1 contraction when you have it. My midwife said have sex and then lay with a pillow under your hips to keep them elevated and the sperm on your cervix. She then said go walk for about 30 minutes. Keep repeating as often as possible. We've only tried once because my husband works nights and we have 4 other kids, 2 are toddlers and have been constantly coming into our room 🙄 lol. When we did it though it did cause some light contractions so if you can go for it!

I think semen will help dilate the cervixs. May not put you in labor but gets things moving. Helped me a little, went from like .5cm 50% effaced to 1cm 70% effaced lol. Had contractions all day and thats how far it got me lol.
