dog or no dog?

Question

Are dogs worth it??  We have a deposit down on one, but I'm nervous about all the responsibility and extra work.  I was also going to start trying to have a baby next month and feel like a newborn and a dog would be overwhelming.  Is it all worth it?  Do they add all the joy to life?

Dogs are lots of work and depending on their health can be expensive too. I think they are totally worth it, they love you unconditionally. If you have doubts I would tell you to wait, please do not get a dog and then later decide you don't want him/her, or he's too expensive, or too much work. Getting a dog is commitment to care for him/her for the rest of its life.

If a dog is too much responsibility/work, a baby isn't going to be easier. But honestly I think that if you have to question it this much, you should wait. If anything I'd say you should foster a dog that way you get to see if you're ready for that yet and you also get to help out a shelter and the dog at the same time. If you enjoy it you can adopt the dog or go from there.

Let's just say I have four dogs, they are my babies. They bring so much joy to my life and without them.. I'm sure I'd be miserable. When I'm sad they cuddle!

If you are trying to have a baby and not used to having a dog around, I would say don't do it!!!

As long as you do proper training they are great. No different than a child except you didn't give birth and they don't talk.

The only time i hate having dogs is when it's cold and i have to walk them lol other than that, they're totally worth getting.

I got lucky with my two dogs as they both like kids but LOVE babies and are very gentle around them. Of course we got ours from a shelter where unlike a breeder they temperament test the dogs. If a dog doesn't like kids they don't adopt it to a household with children.

If u have never had one before I would suggest maybe fostering one 1st to see if it's fits what u are looking to have. Dogs are a lot of work. I've always had dogs growing up and got one as adult. My husband and I took the time to train her and she's such a great dog.

Dogs are definitely worth it. They do take a lot of work and can sometimes test your patience but they will love you unconditionally. I would take your time with pup before trying for a baby. Depending on the breed and dog it could take months to train (more then 9 months).
