Childbirth classes?

Question

Is anyone taking childbirth, infant care or breastfeeding classes? Do you recommend them?

My doctor hasn't mentioned anything about these to me so I wasn't sure if these are necessary or a thing of the past. My hospital does offer these from $35 to $120 depending on the course.

My husband took a dad's class and I took a breastfeeding class. Together we have taken several childbirth/Lamaze/postpartum classes. Honestly, our drs office and local hospital provides these classes for free, which is why we took them. We already knew a majority of the information covered just from researching and googling ahead of time.  The most benefit we got was from the childbirth class at the hospital we are giving birth at because a labor and delivery nurse/midwife taught it and told us hospital specific information and took us on a tour.

I didn't take any with my first. I just read a couple books on the topics.

We took Lamaze, because I'm going to try to go without an epidural, although I'm not opposed to some pain meds. As I get closer, I realize I could buckle and beg for the epidural as soon as the pain kicks in 😕

The Lamaze class made me feel prepared, but I guess you never truly can be because you don't know how it'll play out.

I'm taking all of them as a first time mom. My hospital offers them all for free which is a plus. We have taken one so far and have found it very beneficial not just for myself but firmly husband.

I'm also a 29 year old FTM. My husband and I took a breastfeeding class this past weekend and got a lot out of it. We are also signed up for preparing for baby and labor and delivery in early April (due May 18). I can't speak for those yet, but after the breastfeeding class I'm almost positive they will be worth it!

We took a birthing class last weekend and next weekend we are taking newborn and breastfeeding class. I definitely feel like we learned a lot and am glad we took it.
