Is it normal to be required to have a OB down payment?

Yesterday I scheduled my first appointment.  I was a little thrown off When the scheduler said I needed a $300 deposit by the first appointment.   Is this normal? What if I don't like this doc and end up switching? Do I get that back? Does it go toward my insurance deductible?

This is my first pregnancy so I don't have a lot of experience, but had my first appointment yesterday and didn't have to pay anything. Probably depends on your insurance. I would call and ask them.

It all depends on your insurance. We have Tricare, so we don't have to worry about the down payment. My sister, on the other hand, she's had a down payment for all three of her kids. It goes towards your final bill with the OB.
