Should I tell my boss early I'm pregnant?

Question

I have an hour commute each way and I've been struggling to stay awake at work. Im thinking of telling my boss in pregnant to see if I could reduce my hours to 35 a week I stress of 40. I'm almost 10 weeks. I'm also scared of telling my boss then something happening to the baby... but I would need time off if that happened. My boss is a man but he had 4 kids. What do you ladies think 
?

I'm just one to err on the side of caution. If I were to decide to tell early, I'd talk to HR first then my boss that way I know I'm protected.

It really depends on your rapport with your boss, how long you've been there etc. I told my boss early because I was visibly unwell and crazy rumors started going around, but by that time I had known my boss for 6 years and knew she'd be supportive.

If he has 4 kids, I'm sure he knows a thing or two about women and pregnancy. I would say to tell him. Don't fear for your job, there are laws protecting you! But this is a heads up, the fatigue usually wears off around 12-14 weeks when you hit the 2nd trimester. Then you'll most likely get a boost of energy until you're near your 3rd trimester. Maybe you can talk to him about lessening your hours during this time and agree to get back to 40 hrs when you're at 14 weeks? This is just a suggestion. I guess overall, you should see how flexible your boss is willing to be with you.

We told my boss before any family 😂 we got along well, and there was another pregnancy in the office. I didn't have any morning sickness but i was peeing every thirty seconds and I wanted him to know why, also I wanted him to have plenty of time for us to find a replacement as we've had trouble hiring in the past. I told him at 8 weeks, and the worst that happened was him always asking if I needed to leave early 😂

So I struggled with telling my boss early also because we hadn't told anyone else. We had a business trip planned that I was going to have to go on but I wasn't comfortable with it, so I finally decided to tell him. If it affects your job, you should tell your boss. Just stress to them that it is important that they don't say anything to anyone else because you haven't told anyone else and the first trimester comes with a lot of risks. My boss was very understanding and he didn't say a word until he knew it was ok by me. Not only that, but he actually came to me later and told me that if at any time during the pregnancy I am not feeling well that I could work from home.
