Periods after pregnancy????

It has been almost a year since I had my daughter. I was just diagnosed with MS at the beginning of December and instead of taking the medication we decided to start trying for another baby. Well I stopped taking my birth control in January and this has been my first period that has come naturally since the birth. I don't remember my flow ever being this heavy or the blood being so bright red. I was put on birth control when I was 13 and went off of it at 27. After 2 miscarriages and having my daughter I am now almost 30. Is the change in period normal? Is it something to worry about our call my doctor regarding? Thanks for your comments and advice!
