Genetic testing before pregnancy?

Has anyone gotten genetic testing (for both yourself and spouse) prior to getting pregnant? A doctor recently recommended this (there is no family history of anything) but felt it was a good idea for anyone before they try to have a baby. I haven't spoken to anyone who has done this so I'm just wondering if any of you have and if so, did you find it helpful or scary?

My husband and I did when we were dating but it was because we both had family members with a terrible and often fatal genetic condition. Not sure I would have done it without the family histories! Good luck

I tired but both of my insurances wouldn't cover it 😪

I did. Both my husband and i come from a part of canada with higher risk of genetics disorders so we had to do them. Turns out out of 7 possibilities i tested positive for 2 and my husband had all negative. Just do it.
