Heck yeah! I loved my epidural, despite the fact that it failed 3 times.  It made everything numb. I didnt feel anything, until it failed. The last time it did, i was too close to pushing so i couldnt get it fixed. Thankfully it failed just enough to keep my lady bits numb, but allow me to feel my contractions so i knew when to push. Ill be getting it again this time around too.

See if your hospital offers nitrous oxide. It's completely safe to breathe in during labor and for some mom's it makes transition and pushing MUCH more tolerable. As for your epidural question: YES. They do help that much lol. If it doesn't almost eliminate your pain (not pressure), it isn't placed right or the med level is wrong.

I had initially refused the epidural and was given staidol to take the edge off. I finally caved after 40 hours of hard labor and got the epidural. It worked wonderfully. I was on pitocin to regulate my contractions and ended up fighting them because of the intense pain. Without the pitocin, I wouldn't have needed the meds.

I think there are other things that help but my mom said after her first two kids being born naturally and the third with the epidural
She wouldn't do it any other way lol

Epidural was amazing. I tried natural for 7 hours but once I hit back pain I couldn't take it anymore. Didn't hurt to get it and relaxed me took away the pain till the baby was sitting so low. And an epidural does not affect the baby!
