Zantac/Ranitidine in first trimester?

So for the past 6 years I've been on heavy doses of Omeprazole for severe acid reflux. I am currently 8weeks pregnant. I stopped taking my omeprazole when I got my positive pregnancy test as it can cause miscarriage or birth defects. My GI doctor gave me Zantac as he feels it will be more safe, but he didn't sound too sure. The reflux is TERRIBLE. I mean constantly throwing up stomach bile all day long, feeling like complete dirt. Has anyone else taken Zantac during their first trimester and had a healthy baby without complications?
