Losing Weight

I'm 177lbs right now and I'm really unhappy about the way I look. I've tried over and over again to love myself but I can't. I really want to lose weight, like 40lbs. It's only my stomach and hip (love handles) fat that I'm super insecure about. Any tips? Types of food and workout ideas to lose weight in this particular part of my body? Anything would be much appreciated!
