is it ever ok to hosts your own baby shower?

Baby girl is born on July. We wanted to have a baby shower may 6 when the snow should have melted and it will be much warmer. We want to do an open invite block party (I'm close to my neighbors) outdoors bbq thing. We want to invite everybody, not just my girl friends.  I know a lot of people and want to celebrate with them but I don't feel close enough to anyone for them to hosts my shower, espically since H is so involved and excited about it.
Can we throw our own party? 
Another issue:  My parents are visiting but leave in April.  We thought about doing the shower earlier but the snow wod probably not be melted so we can't do it outside and my mom whose from south east Asia doesn't understand the concept of a shower so doesn't feel like she's missing out. But she would enjoy it, I think.  Should we do it inside, earlier, limit the guest list?

I was thinking about doing the same thing. Mostly because no one has offered to host a shower for me and I feel it would be rude to ask. So I was thinking just a fun celebration of the babies arrival and add bringing diapers to win a prize. I don't know if it's a good idea or not.

I'm due June 30 and throwing a BBQ/baby shower in May at my house for our family and friends. My step mom is helping, but it's definitely not going to be a traditional baby shower thrown for me by someone else.

I was planning on doing my own this time since no one seemed to care about my second baby and I didn't get a card, let alone a shower. But my mom and sister said they are planning one for me now, but I was totally ready to do it myself. Do it if you want to.

Do it! Baby showers are not exactly some ancient sacred western tradition. You make the rules and celebrate baby however you wish! Congrats on your girl!

I'm basically hosting my own baby shower, no one has offered to host one for me- just to help set up basically. I really don't mind though, I would rather plan and do things myself so that I know things will be done how I want 🤷🏻‍♀️

I.e.: Mrs _____ requests your presence at a shower for Mrs _______ 
I don't see how anyone would find you are the one throwing it. Just put out an invite for a baby celebration 🎉 and ask as few friends/SO/etc to help you make sure the food and drink platters remain filled and have fun! 
A friend of mine held a "Daiper-Q" for their second baby bc they had the big stuff but wanted a celebration. Everyone brought a bag of diapers and if they wanted, a side dish to contribute. The guys had cold beers and the mamas had sparkling champagne and everyone just had a great time hanging out, playing yard games and things. It was great!
Showers might be traditional but that doesn't mean you have to follow traditional rules! You do you Mama!

This is my third and I decided to have some fam over for dinner that we will be hosting. I originally was going to have a shower and do a gift card tree but I started to notice that things were probably not going as I panned . So after a few fam meetings  we all decided that the money that my my parents and his parents were going to pay for my shower ( 1,600 😑) is being giving to us in a monetary form so we can go shopping and enjoy a day together supplying the new goodies for our nugget and if anyone else like friends or fam wants to get our daughter anything - a gift card would suffice . I'm picky and this is my third and there's nothing wrong with doing things your way . It's 2017 , people have couple showers , gift card showers , no showers . It's your baby do what makes you happy and what makes u feel best
