anybody do or planning to do cry it out?

Question

Thinking about doing cry it out after we get home from vacation next month, he'll be 6 months old. I think he went through a sleep regression recently and it never ended and he's developed bad habits. He used to sleep 10 hours straight no problem! 😭

Any tips on CIO? How long did it take you? 
No judgement please, I'm really sad about this but going crazy.

UPDATE:  thanks for all your help!! Also do you guys use a night light or any projections? I will definitely use white noise but I don't know about a light yet?

We room share and did cio took baby about a week to catch on and he does great now at the most on a bad day he will cry for 15 minutes during nap times and bed time he doesn't cry period anymore and sleeps all night with one feeding.  I recommend liner playing some games or popping a good movie while your starting so it's not so hard and then just go on every 5 minutes too comfort then start to push that to 10 and make it random so they don't expect it.  Also don't pick baby up let them work it out.  Good luck this saved is

I don't know if I'd really term it as CIO, but I almost always give him 3-5 minutes of fussing before I go in to soothe him. Lots of times, he just needs me to be away from him to settle to sleep (I'm too distracting!)

If he still won't settle, I'll feed if necessary, but will usually try a bounce or snuggle before putting him back down. Rinse and repeat unless he's really screaming, in which case we might skip the nap attempt for 20 minutes or end up rocking to sleep.

I think we started when he was about a month and a half. Honestly, we do the cry it out method when our son is generally cranky, not truly bothered. I wasn't planning on it so young, but my son hates to be held. He honestly gets annoyed at being held. When nothing would stop his crying I'd lay him in his crib and walk away for my own sanity and within 5-20 minutes (depending on the day and what's going on with him) he'd either be passed out asleep, or playing with a toy. The thing is, he started sleeping 8 straight hours during the night at 2 months and started sleeping completing through the night at 3 months. He did go through a sleep regression, but it didn't last long and now at 5.5 months he sleeps/plays in his crib from 8pm-6/8am. For some, it really works. My neighbors daughter is a year old and she just started the cio method and she told me "I wish I would've done this sooner!" It's hard. Sometimes you feel like a bad parent. But if it's that your baby is just tired or cranky, they may just need to be left alone. My son is very attached to a bunny toy and I always make sure to give it to him. He'll cry for a good 5 minutes and then stop to look around. When he sees his bunny he grabs it and puts the ear in his mouth and self soothes himself to sleep. Occasionally he'll cry again for a minute or so. But my husband and I get 8 hours sleep every night, we have a great routine, and my baby still smiles every time he sees me. It's worked for him. We just got back from a family trip and she is 5.5 months. I'm ready to sleep train but hubs will be on a work trip and then we will travel Easter weekend. Maybe I should just do it while he is gone. I need to research more I still have a lot of questions. Do you have to night wean to sleep train? Do you let them cry any time they wake up at night, or just after diaper check etc?

I started the Ferber method when my son was 4 1/2 months. It's interval cry it out/reassure. The first day was very hard on me, but after that he just falls asleep on his own in a couple minutes. He now sleeps through the night with the occasional wake up for the soother. I'm so happy we did it, he's a much happier baby as he's getting proper sleep now. He now actually cries for his bed, as soon as I put him down in his crib he settles and falls asleep. One of the best decisions we made for him.

We did it and I've never looked back. I'm sure it doesn't work with all babies but my girl was significantly better after just two nights.  I wouldn't leave her side but I wouldn't pick her up either.  Now I lay her down and leave. She cries normally for maybe 1 minute and passes out. Just make sure baby can self soothe with something. That always helps. Binky, thumb, scratching the sheets. Whatever their thing is lol.

We have had great results (I've used it with all four of my babies, starting at different ages depending on their sleep habits, etc). We just started with LO last week at 5months. I laid her down and let her cry for five minutes Utes then went in and stroked her tummy and faced until she was calm, and then left again, this time for ten minutes. Just before the ten minute mark she fell asleep. The next night it was right after the first five minute soothing, and the last three nights she barely even protests. She naps pretty well during the day so I haven't started any CIO during the day and have heard it's easier if they're well versed in falling asleep at night on their own so eventually I'm sure I'll have to cross that bridge. No lie, it's HARD when they cry, but just keep reminding yourself it's to HELP them learn to get the rest they need to be healthy.  I don't know of any parent who got through CIO training and regretted it. BUT it's definitely not for everyone.

I have kinda started it my son is 5 months old .. I will let him cry when I lay him down for a nap after a few minutes he calms down but will start back up even harder and sometimes he'll just go to sleep .. I will not pick him up but I will comfort him if he starts crying harder after he calms down .. he has been teething extremely bad (from what I could see 4-6 teeth are coming in) so he wants me all the time ( thankfully he will be content in his jumper if I have to do something like go pee)

I'm thinking about doing it at 6 months as well. My LO is 5 months now. Tonight I actually tried to get him to sleep on his own without falling asleep on my breast and he did. He cried for 2 minutes, I put the binky in his mouth and he fell asleep BUT he then woke up after 40 minutes crying hysterically so I picked him up, tried to soothe him but nothing, had to put him on the boob! A month ago he was sleeping through the night and all of a sudden he's waking up constantly. It's crazy bc I don't know if he's hungry, teething, needs comforting or it's a leap he's going through?!! I feel bad for our little ones but us mommas need rest too!
