Short term disability

Wondering if anyone else is in a situation like mine. My employer does not provide short term disability insurance. This is the coverage which would help offset and pay lost wages during birth and maternity leave. 9 weeks of federally mandated maternity leave (unpaid) is the law under the family leave act. Many employers will allow you to take vacation and sick pay during this time or even help pay salary for part or all of the time off. Problem is at my job literally has never had a pregnant woman work here so this would be entirely new and there's no guarantee they would provide me any pay. I'm still in the keeping it quiet time frame but I was hoping for some insight or advice from someone who has navigating this tricky situation when it comes time for me to tell them
