Let try this again.. Should Sex Ed be taught in school?

It is not taught here anymore and hasn't been for quite awhile. 
I'm aware that some places it's required, but it's not allowed here. Which I think is highly disappointing. 
It's not taught here because, basically, parents felt it was something they should teach themselves, but never teach their children about it..

Absolutely. There is no excuse for it to not be. Don't want unwanted pregnancies? Then fucking teach kids how to avoid it and how they happen along with STIs and everything else

Absolutely, yes. As someone who wasn't taught it in school(yay to a conservative Catholic school) and whose mother refused to talk about it beyond "penis goes in vagina and that's how married people make a baby. Also, birth control is bad for you" you can't always rely on parents to teach kids informative sex education.

It has consistently been shown that comprehensive sex education and access to contraceptives reduce teen pregnancy rates.

Yes. It's kids who haven't had sex education that are asking "can I get pregnant if I give a blow job, sneeze on my legs and then spit on my hands?" Some parents don't ever have the sex talk with their kids. I'd rather be educated by teachers than have kids out running the streets getting pregnant because they didn't know anything about sex.

It should be required and no parent should be able to opt out of it. Why? Because theres parents out there who just dont want to teach their kids about safe sex, stds, pregnancy, etc. In these cases, the children suffer from not getting the accurate info they need

Sure, all children should be taught sex Ed. There has been studies that even though sex Ed teaches abstinence it proven not to work. Instead our children should be taught safe sex instead of no sex.

Where I live, sex ed is taught but your parents have to sign a permission slip. If it isn't signed - you get moved to another room and don't get to participate.

Definitely better than not teaching it at all... but I think it should be required. It isn't just about birth control; it's also about preventing the spread of disease. HIV is something that can fuck up your entire life. From ONE mistake. If you don't teach your kids about this, then they are at high risk. 🙄 parents say they want to teach their kids themselves; but they don't. They feel too embarrassed or whatever by the sex talk and go "I'll do it when they are ready to have sex - so at 18" you don't talk about it when you think it's appropriate to have sex; you have to talk about it wayyyy before that. Your kids will likely have sex behind your back and you are literally putting them in danger by keeping them uneducated.

My parents worked a lot when I was young and often times my sister and I were left home alone until 8/9 pm at night. We were poor so this was just life. Dont judge my parents. They did a lot for us. I was in 3rd grade when I got my period and the school nurse helped me clean up and took me to the 5th grade sex Ed class. My sister was a year older than me so I ended up learning before she did. My parents didn't find out I had reached womanhood until I was at the end of 5th grade but by that time I was completely independent. I definitely think these classes are necessary. I wouldn't have made it without them.

I think sex education is definitely important, but the thing is... we have so many different tools and resources available to us nowadays, that we simply didn't have 20 years ago, and honestly, I think we would be perfectly fine with, or without it because it's literally everywhere you turn, and if your parents fail to teach you what you need to learn, or what you want to know, you owe it to yourself to educate yourself. It's highly possible nowadays. More so than 20 years ago. If you ever go to the Doctor's office, they have tons of informational pamphlets on puberty, adolescence, acne, sexual intercourse, std's, prevention, pregnancy, you name it. It doesn't matter if it's a pediatric clinic, the hospital, a health department, or the gynecologist. They're there. Also, there's the library. Those things really do still exist! Then of course there's the internet. Yeah sure, there's a lot of misinformation out there, but there's a lot of highly accurate and reputable sites out there too. Some that you can even sign up to receive free informational packets, pamphlets, free products, emails and newsletters. YouTube is another great site... and I know it sounds silly, but if you need to know how the female reproductive organs work, or how to have sex, I'm sure there's a video for that. I just don't feel like it's do or die anymore. Like, "OMG, they don't offer sex ed!! We're all doomed!" No.... just do your research. You'll be okay.
