Why not just quit smoking?

My mom was a smoker, but the second she found out she was pregnant and into breastfeeding; she stopped. So I know it can be done. Personally, I would not risk my child's health.

So much is filtered out of breast milk that is potentially harmful. They actually recommend that mothers in less developed countries who are HIV positive still breastfeed. The risk of transmission is lower than other contaminants from using local water to make formula. So I'd say smoking is safe as long as you are responsible of course and don't set the ashtray on the baby's head.

It would make sense. At the same time why would u smoke around your baby? If u must smoke smoke outside away from the windows like in the yard or something.

I voted formula feed. I'm not a mom bit this is just my opinion, so please no attacks. I would think that if you were smoking the toxins from the cigarette would pass into the milk? If you are smoking you're not as healthy as when you aren't. My immune system is crap because I had second hand cigarette smoke for 10 years. I'm not saying this person is smoking in front of their child. Just that smoke does effect the developing immune system but I'm not sure if it passes through milk. I assume doctors wouldn't recommend breast feeding if you smoke?
