Moved countries?

Have any of you ladies moved countries before? If so what were your reasons? What were your experiences in the country you moved to, did you like it?

My sister's boyfriend moved from the UK to Australia for work, 3 years ago, and he's absolutely loving it here. He's working towards his permanent residency ☺️

When I was 20 I moved to the UK from California. I went over as an Au Pair about 3 weeks after connecting with a family online. I had Skyped a few times with them and emailed a lot before agreeing to go over. I was an Au Pair for 2 different families near Watford, England over 2 years before deciding to get my degree in Cardiff, Wales (which took 3 years).

The visa situation was the trickiest (especially my student visa) but I had to figure that out myself. My husband (who was my boyfriend at the time) is British but he was living in Canada at the time, so I went over on my own and had to figure out everything on my own really... driving, how to get a cell phone, where to get food and clothes, how to get a bank account, how to drive on a roundabout 😂... all that fun stuff.  It was challenging at first but I'm pretty independent so it all worked out.

After nannying, I looked into universities that accepted FAFSA/US loans and applied to a few places. I decided on Wales because my husband is Welsh and by that time he had moved back home. I found it hard at times to make friends but it was really the least of my worries tbh 🤷🏽‍♀️

It was a great experience, even though both the nannying and student experiences were very different from each other. I went from living comfortably in someone's home and watching young kids all day, to being a poor student and having to work nights just to survive... all while in a foreign country. All in all, I don't regret anything. People thought I was crazy for packing up and going, especially in the UK when they learned I chose to live there over California lol, but I'm so happy I did it. I really wasn't doing anything at 20 and moving helped me to reavulate what I wanted to do with my life.
